Banitsa is a typical easy to make Bulgarian meal, that is often prepared for New Year’s Eve. At this time usually lucky charms are attached on top of the meal for symbolic purposes.
  • 1 package of filo pastry
  • 250 gr. Yoghurt
  • 450 gr. Feta cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 50 gr butter

  1. Make the cheese into pieces and mix it in a bowl together with the yoghurt and eggs. Make sure the lumps of cheese are not destroyed.
  2. Let the filo pastry get used to room temperature and then take four to five layers and put them in a round pan of your chosen size. When putting each one of them make sure to put butter on them with a brush. This is important for keeping the good taste. After those layers put part of the mix of cheese, eggs and yoghurt. Then repeat the process of putting filo pastry and mix until the mixture ends. Once you have done this put the left of the butter on top.
  3. Put the meal in an preheated to 200 degrees oven. Let it in there for 30 minutes until you see it is crispy on top. Then let it cool down a bit and cut it in squares.
