In Greece, fried meatballs are called keftedes and usually include within the mix bread, onions and mint leaf. Stewed meatballs are called youvarlakia and usually include small quantities of rice. This version is a bit healthier because I put them in the oven.
  • 500gr minced meat (beef)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 medium size potatoes peeled and boiled
  • ½ bunch of parsley chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 slices of bread trimmed
  • 1tsp black pepper
  • 1tsp red pepper paprika
  • 1tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cumin

  1. Place the minced meat in a bowl.
  2. Trim onion and garlic and add it to the meat
  3. Add also the eggs, the bread.
  4. Smash the potatoes to a pure and add it also to the meat with the others ingredients.
  5. Mix it well with your hands and keep it to the fridge at least for 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven at 180oC
  7. Make small balls with your hands, place them in a big flat metal tray with olive oil and bake them for 40 mins. Or if you like you can fry them in olive oil. But you must dust them with flour in advance.
  8. This dish can be served with potatoes or rice.
  9. Enjoy!
