Pasta with tuna is a main course of Italian cuisine, easy to prepare, quick to execute and very tasty. Impress your friends with this recipe based on tuna in olive oil and tomato sauce, great for both winter and summer. There are various recipes of pasta with tuna sauce and you can adapts to various pasta. We will now plan to use the Italian durum wheat pasta called “Penne Rigate,” but you can use the pasta you have available at home. Any other type of pasta is good. Have a look of what you have in your pantry: fusilli, spaghetti, short sleeves, etc. ..? The result will be delicious!
  • 350 g Penne Rigate or other pasta of Italian Durum Wheat (fusilli, linguine, spaghetti, macaroni, etc …)
  • 400 grams of tomato sauce
  • 200 grams of tuna in olive oil (boxed is fine)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 anchovy fillets (if available and if you like)
  • 1 pinch of chili powder
  • salt to taste

  1. For the tuna sauce: Crush two cloves of garlic and golden brown over low heat in a pan together with 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and anchovies. Check that the anchovies have no bones. Stir until the anchovies will be dissolved, then add a bit of chili powder. If you do not like the taste of anchovies you can avoid to use them. Chop the tuna finely and add to the sauce. Pan fry a bit. Add the tomato puree. Cook by making a little shake ‘the sauce, then add the chopped parsley and a pinch of salt.
  2. For pasta: In a saucepan, boil water for the pasta. Add salt with a very scarce tablespoon of salt. When the water boils, pour the Penne Rigate. Check cooking times for Penne Rigate(or the other kind of pasta you are using) on the package (usually 10 to 13 min). Drain the Penne Rigate “al dente”, then add them to the pan with the sauce, stir and pan fry for a couple of minutes. Serve hot. Buon Appetito!
